About ICAN

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) is an autonomous body established under the Nepal Chartered Accountants Act, 1997 for regulationg the accounting profession in the country with an objective to enhance social recognition and faith in the Accounting Profession by raising public awareness towards economic development and creating awareness among the professionals about their responsibility towards the importance of accountancy profession.

The mission is to promote and regulate high quality financial reporting and auditing in Nepal, to develop and maintain the competence of professional accountants and enhance the reputation and role of accounting profession in all sectors of the economy. The Institute, having its head office at ICAN Marg, Satodobato, Lalitpur has network of 6 branches within the country and 2 foreign chapters respectively in Australia and United States of America (USA).

The institute having 21 years of glorious history of serving to the nation is proud to have more than 8,400 members across the country and abroad serving, in all fields, at various professional levels without limitation of their professional excellence and has current enrollment of more than 7,000 students who are pursuing their professional career with the Institute.

Course Contents

Chartered Accountancy is a professional course in accounting that equips students with in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical training which runs simultaneously for the three years period thus helps to develop sound analytical and problem-solving skills to deal with challenging practical scenario.

There are three levels in CA education, which are as mention below:

Note:

  • Students can provisionally register for CAP -I and CAP -II levels.
  • 50% Reistration Fee at the time of Registration and balance 50% within 3 month if registration or before exam form submission whenever is earlier.
  • 50% Registration Fee at the time of Registration and balanve 50% within 3 months of regisration.
  • 50% Registration Fee at the time of Registraion and balance 50% within 3 montyh of registration.

Eligibility Test

To be eligible to erite the final examination in all levels of Charatered Accountancy Education,students are required to pass Eligiblity (Hall Postal) Test as prescripbed by ICAN

Articleship Training

Pratical training along with theoritical eduvation is the unique feature of Charted Accountancy Education . Students must undergo Articleship training for 3 years under praticing CA while they purse the CAP III level .However graduates enrolld for CAP II may start their training from the cap -II level after passing out Group I of cap II . Students are entiled for stipend amountion NPR 4,000, 6,000, and 7,000 respectively during first,second and third year of their Articleship.

Information Technology (IT) Training

CAs are expected to have a pratical knowledge and skills in information Technology. So,institute perceives the use of IT in the field of accounting and auditing sectior.
100 Hours Information Technology Training course has been prescribed mandatorily for the CA students during CAP-II and CAP -III levels. The total 100 Hours has been divided into two parts as Basic level course of 60 Hours for Cap-II AND Advanced Level Course of 40 Hours for CAP -III.

General Management and Communication Skill(GMCS) Training

GMCS PROGRAM

15 days course on General Management and Communication Skills(GMCS) is designed to equep the entrants to the profession with the interpersonal and management skill as well as to provide exposure of contemporary issues in the dynamic socio-economic scenario. This training is a prerequisite to be eligible for CAP -III certificate.

Career Options: For a CA

After successful completion of CAP -III level, one should apply for the membership of ICAN only the members of ICAN can use the designation of “chartered Accountant ” or “CA” before their name. For auditing financial statements of any registered entity in Nepal. one must obtain membership and certificate of practice (COP) of institute as provided by Nepal Chartered Accountants Act -1997.

Charted Accountants Can

  • Set up own Practice and render Auditing ,Accounting,Consultancies,Taxation,Advisory and other Services, or
  • provide strategic direction to any organization in capacity of Chief Executive Officer, Director or any other professional capacity;or
  • Be an Entrepreneur, or
  • Join NGO or INGOs in Senior Position; or
  • Join lucrative position of Government Business Organization; or
  • Undertake Government Service.
